Hi everyone,
I’m sure some of you have already heard about this service, but as I didn’t know about it until recently, thought I would share.

I was googling a product that I was interested in for Hadley one day, and up popped this amazing charity site - http://www.newlifeable.co.uk

It’s part of the charity Newlife and is an equipment granting service. So basically the charity reconditions existing pieces of equipment and then they gift them to families who need them. This is usually where the local authority can’t provide it (for various reasons) and is a great alternative to buying a new piece of equipment and applying for grants to do so.

It’s been great for us and I now always keep an eye on what’s on the website. So far we’ve had a special needs all terrain pushchair and a Leckey standing frame - both of which we couldn’t get funded by the local authority.

The process is pretty quick too - fill out some forms and get your physio or OT to fill out a bit too saying that the equipment would be suitable and is needed by your child. Then, if the equipment is available and you are accepted, it usually comes within a few weeks in my experience.

Last time I spoke to them I asked them to send me some info that I could share with friends and forums etc to make more people aware of such a useful service. This is what they sent.

Hope this is helpful to some of you. xxx

Anyone struggling to access specialist equipment through their statutory services should call our Newlife Nurse Helpline – 0800 902 0095 (free from UK landlines and mobiles) to discuss their individual situation or go to http://www.newlifecharity.co.uk.

Newlife operates a range of services: Equipment Grants make permanent provision of a wide range of items including wheelchairs, buggies, beds, car seats, stair climbers, portable hoists, walking frames and communication aids; Emergency Equipment Loans offer a quick response for families of life limited and terminally ill children and those sleeping in unsafe environments; Play Therapy Pod Loans aid development of those with complex needs; Comfort Capsules help families of terminally ill children make memories together.

Newlifeable has been developed as a recycling solution, working with trusted and experienced equipment suppliers and manufacturers to create a suite of fully refurbished equipment that has been donated by statutory services and families. Each item has been clinically cleaned, refurbished, serviced and certified in line with Medical Health Regulatory Authority guidelines. The items on this website can be accessed through our Equipment Grants service – but now families and organisations also have the option to purchase them at discounted prices. All proceeds are invested back into Newlifeable, to help fund equipment refurbishment.

At the end of 2016 Newlife published an Impact Report to mark the charity’s 25th year. This is available online by going to: http://impact.newlifecharity.co.uk/ and includes a series of filmed interviews with families we have supported through equipment services, medical research and campaigning.

Thank you so much for this post, Sarah! And sharing this info on Newlifeables :)

My friend has been supplied with various bits of equipment for her daughter that the Trust wouldn’t supply and Newlife is a great charity!
